A very sad farewell
Cycling4all.com has long been one of the best websites for cycling fans, with both great information and thoughtful commentary. Wim van Rossum, who has run the site for many years, has as pure a love for the sport as anyone you will ever find. It is with sadness but understanding that today I read his farewell letter to his readers, where he explains his decision to stop his website. Please take a minute to read his final entry.
The officials who charge themselves with organizing and controlling the cycling world, from the UCI to ASO to other race organizers, likely care little about the demise of one cycling website. But well should they carefully ponder and consider the very damning fact that when the greatest, most knowledgeable, and most passionate fans of the sport can no longer even stand to be part of this disintegrating sport any longer, they have a deeply serious problem that cries out for a constructive and cooperative solution.
Wim says it best:
"This cycling world is dominated by people, who are completely incompetent to run this business, who are only looking after their own personal interests and are killing their own sport and business in this way. Besides many others, it is particularly the UCI management, with the present chairman Mr. Pat McQuaid on top, who are failing for the full 100% to keep cycling alive as a sport and are chasing away the necessary sponsors, one after the other, and can only blame each other for doing so. An unique example of mismanagement of a sport and a business."
